UPDATED:

Yuba Community College”s Clear Lake Campus was evacuated early Wednesday morning, April 25, after an anonymous call to the college”s main number alleged that a bomb would go off around 9:30 a.m.

“It was a generalized threat that indicated that they (the caller) may have planted a bomb,” said Officer Mike Ray of the Clearlake Police Department.

The call came in at 8 a.m. and did not indicate where the supposed bomb was located, according to Miriam Root, the college”s public information officer.

Campus security put emergency procedures in place and started evacuating approximately 300 students at around 8:40 a.m. The campus” entrances and parking lot were barricaded while a search was conducted.

Six CPD officers responded to the threat with Lake County Fire District Station 70 standing by, according to Ray. Root said the campus was closed and classes canceled until 12:30 p.m., and the campus” day care center was closed all day.

“We”re pretty sure this was a hoax,” said Root in a phone interview around 10 a.m. Ray confirmed late Wednesday that a building-to-building search — that involved perimeter searches of each building including bathrooms and trash receptacles — produced no evidence of a bomb.

The bomb squad pulled out shortly after 10:30 a.m., having given Dean Bryon Bell the “all clear,” according to Root.

“We searched the entire campus and nothing of a suspicious nature was found,” said Ray. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
