FORT BRAGG — Luis Martinez scattered four hits and drove in both of Kelseyville”s runs as the Knights handed the Fort Bragg Timberwolves their first North Central League I North loss, 2-1, in varsity baseball action on Tuesday in Fort Bragg.

Kelseyville (2-3 North, 8-11 overall) also received a game-saving defensive gem from second baseman Joe Gatlyn in the top of the seventh inning as the Timberwolves rallied for their only run and had the potential tying and winning runs on base. A hard grounder ricocheted off the chest of Kelseyville shortstop Lucas McBride and rolled toward Gatlyn. He barehanded the ball and threw out the Fort Bragg runner by an eyelash.

“That was a game-saver right there,” Kelseyville coach Morgan Weiper said.

Martinez struck out three and walked two in going the distance for the victory. He singled home a run in the top of the third to give the Knights a 1-0 lead and doubled home teammate Mike Duman, who singled leading off the top of the fifth, to make it 2-0.

Duman also walked three times.
