CLEARLAKE — The Clearlake Police Department has made a second arrest in connection with the Friday stabbing of John Rayford McCoy, Jr.

Andre L. Stevens was originally taken into custody after allegedly stabbing McCoy. The CPD reported that Stevens was found on-scene allegedly holding the knife used in the killing.

Lt. Mike Hermann reported Tuesday that 61-year-old Bernard Crowder was arrested for conspiracy to commit robbery. The CPD obtained information that Crowder and Stevens had conspired to commit a crime, which resulted in an altercation that led to the stabbing of McCoy.

According to the CPD, both Stevens and Crowder admitted some involvement in the case but gave conflicting statements during interviews. However, the CPD added, Stevens admitted to stabbing McCoy,

An autopsy was performed Tuesday that confirmed McCoy had died of multiple stab wounds.

Stevens was arraigned Monday before the Honorable Judge Richard C. Martin. Stevens is being charged with murder with malice aforethought and is due to appear back in court this Friday. Bail for Stevens has been set at $1 million.
