LAKE COUNTY — A multi-agency search for Vacaville resident John Leon Stockton, 44, ended Tuesday afternoon when his body was found in the waters of Clear Lake.
Stockton was last seen when he reportedly fell into the water from the back of his boat in the Narrows of Clear Lake on the south side of Buckingham Point on Saturday evening. A witness made the report, and a Marina Patrol Deputy Sheriff Sergeant with the Lake County Sheriff”s Office responded at 5:19 p.m.
After an aerial search by REACH Air Ambulance, grid searches of the water”s surface using water search dogs and just more than two days of searching using dive teams and sonar equipment, Stockton”s body was found in the water at around 12 p.m. on Tuesday.
Sonar equipment brought in by Tom Tessier of Aqua-Tech Inc., a Santa Rosa company, aided divers in the find. Tessier came Monday morning in response to a direct request from the Lake County Sheriff”s Office, according to Lt. Cecil Brown.
A request for mutual aid had also gone to the California Office of Emergency. Brown said agencies from Sonoma, Alameda and Sacramento counties responded, as well as the California Rescue Dog Association.
A coroner”s investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of Stockton”s death, according to a Tuesday press release. An autopsy was performed Wednesday, and a full report, including the results of toxicology testing, are expected in several weeks, said Brown.
Brown said the toxicology testing is a routine part of an autopsy performed in death cases resulting from vehicle and boating accidents.
