The Konocti Dance Team is preparing for its first recital, to be held at noon Saturday, May 19,at Pomo Elementary School in Clearlake. The event will feature young dancers ranging in age from 3 to 13.
Konocti Dance Team is a newly-established business teaching dance techniques to local youth. Instructor Annette Lee has returned to her Lake County home after a 10-year absence to share her talents with students who share her passion for dance.
“I have lived in the ?big city” for the past 10 years, but I am a true Lake County girl at heart,” Lee said. “This is where I spent my childhood. Since my childhood I have had the opportunity to see the world and learn many important life lessons from many wonderful teachers.
“I have danced twice on national television and performed for countless live audiences,” Lee continued. “I have taught hundreds of students and have trained dozens of fellow dance teachers. And now, I am thrilled to be back in the community in which I was raised, teaching dance to our children.”
Lee, who began her career in dance under the guidance of well-known instructor Louise Coats, offers training in a variety of dance styles including tap, jazz, street dance and ballet. Programs are available for children ages 3 through 13. A special “Mommy & Me” class is also available for children 18 months to 3 years and their mothers.
Among the many skills Lee said students can gain from the program are dance, discipline, self-confidence, team work, appropriate classroom behavior and social skills.
“My goal for the Konocti Dance Team is for it to be a positive, safe, inclusive and fun learning environment for pre-school and elementary school children in Lake County,” she said.
Lee currently teaches at Pomo Elementary School on Saturdays. She is looking forward to opening her own dance studio on Old Highway 53 this August.
Konocti Dance Team is taking reservations now for two upcoming summer dance camps. Disney Dance Camp is open to children age 4 to 7. The camp will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, June 25 through 29 and again Aug. 6 through 10. Campers will learn dances to some of their favorite Disney songs and there will be arts and craft projects too.
A Pop Star Dance Party, for children age 8 to 13 is scheduled for the same dates, with instruction from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Both camps will perform a show on the last day of each camp.
