CLEARLAKE OAKS — James Paschke of Woodland took top honors in the Clearlake Oaks/Glenhaven annual catfish derby held this past weekend. Paschke reeled in a 28.23-pound channel catfish and took home the grand prize of a new boat, motor and trailer. The package was valued at more than $4,000.
In second place was William Bhader of San Jose with a 26.15-pounder. He won $600. James Champlin of San Jose took third place with a 24.63-pounder and won $500. Jose Gouker of Marysville came in fourth with a 24.57-pounder ($300) and Shelia Bird of Oroville was fifth with a 24.41-pounder ($250).
Rounding out the top 20 places were: Pamaela Woods, Clearlake, 24.18 pounds, $200 (sixth); Justin Lane, Hood River, Ore., 24.05 pounds, $150 (seventh); Donnell Thompson, Pittsburg, 23.82 pounds, $100 (eighth); Michael Reed, Greenville, 23.19 pounds, $90 (ninth); Joshua Lane, Hood River, Ore., 23.18 pounds, $80 (10th); Tommy Wheeler, Sutter, 22.85 pounds, $70 (11th); Steve Johnson, Oceanside, 22.51 pounds, $60 (12th); Gary Moore, Clearlake, 21.56 pounds, $50 (13th); Kerry Hamilton, Boron, 21.48 pounds, $50 (14th); Lee Harris, Oakland, 21.39 pounds, $50 (15th); Mathew Ross, Clearlake, 21.1 pounds, $50 (16th); John Willis Jr., Lakeport, 21 pounds, $40 (17th); Gene Shogren, Yuba City, 20.31 pounds, $40 (18th); Colin Johnson, Santa Rosa, 19.33 pounds, $40 (19th); Brad Zazzetti, Forestville, 19.26 pounds, $40 (20th).
Ricky Williamson of Clearlake came in 21st with 18.43 pounds and won $40.
Chance Barrett of Kelseyville won the kids” division with a 15.16-pound catfish. He won a new quad ATV. Second place went to Renato Mandujano of Healdsburg with a 14.9-pound catfish, earning him $30.
Krystal Chavez of Lower Lake was third with a 13.55-pounder and won $20, and Lucas Powell of Clearlake came in fourth with a 13.51-pounder and won $15.
The derby drew 497 adults and 96 kids. A total of 71 catfish were weighed in for a grand total of 1,049.61 pounds.
