PLEASANT HILL — Brandon White of Clear Lake High School and Kim Bouillerce of Upper Lake High School nailed down first-place finishes on Saturday during the North Coast Section Class A Track Championships at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill.
The top three finishers in each event advance to the Meet of Champions beginning Friday and concluding Saturday at Edwards Stadium on the U.C. Berkeley campus.
White was the only Lake County athlete to qualify in two events — the 110-meter hurdles and the 300 hurdles. He won the 110, his best event, in 15.64 seconds, finishing ahead of Coastal Mountain Conference rival John Diekmann of Santa Rosa Christian, who was second in 15.81.
In the 300, White and Dikemann flip-flopped finishing positions. Diekmann was first in 41.77 and White was second at 42.51. Justin Mills of Clear Lake finished fifth in 44.16.
“He looked real good in the 110,” Clear Lake coach Dick Bode said of White, a senior. “He had such a big lead that he hit the final hurdle and still won.”
In fact, White not only hit the final hurdle but he broke it.
“There was a hairline fracture,” Bode said.
White will compete in both events at the Meet of Champions.
“The 110, his best event, is first so he won”t be tired out,” Bode said.
Clear Lake also qualified its 4×100 relay team for the MOC. White, Armando Martinez, Kevin Burt and Alex Spillman finished third in 46.23, just 1/100th of a second behind runner-up Fort Bragg (46.22).
“It was a great race,” Bode said.
College Prep won in 45.96.
Clear Lake”s only other individual qualifier on the boys” side was Mills in the pole vault at 11 feet, 6 inches, good for second place behind Tony Villalobos of Justin-Siena (12-0).
“That was a season best for him,” Bode said of Mills. “He almost cleared 12 feet but he just clipped it (the bar).”
Also placing in events were Jorel Allegro, who was fifth in the shotput (40-7 3/4); Daniel Gildea, who was ninth in the discus (113-7); Kory Hook, who was ninth in the high jump (5-6); and Martinez, who was eighth in the 100 (12.5).
Clear Lake”s 4×400 relay team of Mills, Hook, Seth Glazier and Tyler Glazier placed sixth despite running a season-best 3 minutes, 41.71 seconds.
Advancing to the MOC along with White, Mills and the Clear Lake 4×100 team is Middletown”s Myles Moffat, who finished second in the triple jump, clearing 40-3. The winner was Josh Hartsock of Fort Bragg at 40-10 1/2. Nick Valdovinos of Middletown was sixth at 37-6 1/2.
