James Paschke of Woodland took top honors in the Clearlake Oaks/Glenhaven annual catfish derby held over the weekend. Paschke reeled in a 28.23-pound channel catfish and took home the grand prize of a new boat, motor and trailer. The package was valued at more than $4,000.

In second place was William Bhader of San Jose with a 26.15 pounder. He won $600. James Champlin of San Jose took third place with a 24.63-pounder and won $500. In fourth place was Jose Gouker of Marysville with a 24.57-pound catfish. He won $300. Shelia Bird of Oroville ended up in fifth place with a 24.41 pounder and won $250.

Rounding out the top 20 places was: Sixth, Pamaela Woods, Clearlake, 24.18 pounds, $200; Seventh, Justin Lane, Hood River, Ore., 24.05 pounds, $150; Eighth, Donnell Thompson, Pittsburg, 23.82 pounds, $100; Ninth, Michael Reed, Greenville, 23.19 pounds, $90; 10th, Joshua Lane, Hood River, Ore., 23.18 pounds, $80; 11th, Tommy Wheeler, Sutter, 22.85 pounds, $70; 12th, Steve Johnson, Oceanside, 22.51 pounds, $60; 13th, Gary Moore, Clearlake, 21.56 pounds, $50; 14th, Kerry Hamilton, Boron, 21.48 pounds, $50; 15th, Lee Harris, Oakland, 21.39 pounds, $50; 16th Mathew Ross, Clearlake, 21.1 pounds, $50; 17th, John Willis Jr., Lakeport, 21 pounds, $40; 18th, Gene Shogren, Yuba City, 20.31 pounds, $40; 19th, Colin Johnson, Santa Rosa, 19.33 pounds, $40; 20th, Brad Zazzetti, Forestville, 19.26 pounds, $40; 21st Ricky Williamson, Clearlake, 18.43 pounds, $40.

Chance Barrett of Kelseyville won the kids division with a 15.16-pound catfish. He won a new quad ATV.

In second place in the kids division was Renato Mandujano of Healdsburg with a 14. 9-pound catfish. He won $30. Krystal Chavez of Lower Lake took third place with a 13.55 pounder and won $20. Lucas Powell of Clearlake took fourth place in the kids division with a 13.51 pounder and won $15.

The derby drew 497 adults and 96 kids. A total of 71 catfish were weighed in for a grand total of 1,049.61 pounds.

Overall the number of catfish caught was down from previous years due to the high winds that prevailed during much of the derby.
