KELSEYVILLE — An early-morning crash two miles south of Kit”s Corner in Kelseyville brought on a sig alert, five CHP units, fire responders and around four hours of backed-up traffic.

Lakeport resident Clois Burns, 20, was driving a silver 2001 Honda Civic north on State Route 29 when she veered into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons, according to a CHP report.

Dennis McClelland of Willits was driving a Coca-Cola big rig south, and tried to swerve to no avail. The Honda hit the left front of the truck, smashing the driver”s side of the Honda.

Despite the significant damage the Honda sustained, Burns reportedly suffered scrapes and bruises, and was released from Sutter Lakeside Hospital shortly after a Kelseyville Fire ambulance took her there.

“If the big rig had not swerved it probably would have been a lot worse,” said Public Information Officer Josh Dye, who responded to the scene after the first call was made just before 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

McClelland, who was driving the big rig, was reportedly unharmed.

Traffic was backed up to the Kelseyville rock quarry as of 7:05 a.m., according to the CHP log, and was eventually rerouted to Red Hills Drive. Some cars were allowed through at 7:45 a.m. to one-way traffic control. Both lanes were reopened after cleanup was finished at 10:16 a.m.

Dye said the presence of drugs and/or alcohol was not suspected for either driver.
