CLEARLAKE — The Clearlake City Council has hired Allan McClain as the new chief of police effective June 18. He was selected from a pool of 28 candidates.

McClain has more than 26 years of law enforcement experience with three California law enforcement agencies. He was the Sheriff, Coroner and Public Administrator for the Kings County Sheriffs Office from 2004 to 2007.

His prior experience included one year with the California State Police and two years with the College of the Sequoias Police Department.

In addition, he has served as the Chairman of the Kings County Narcotics Task Force (2004-2007), was a member of the Tulare/Kings County Police Academy Advisory Board for eight years (1999-2007), and served as a member of the Kings County Ambulance Commission for three years (1999-2002). He has also been an instructor at the College of the Sequoias where he taught at the police academy on subjects ranging from police tactics to ethical dilemmas and legal issues. And, he taught classes in advanced officer training for newly appointed supervisors and in community oriented policing.

He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management and Organizational Development from Fresno Pacific University and an Associate of Science degree in Criminology from the College of the Sequoias.

He is committed to developing a strong Police/Community partnership and we know that he will provide strong leadership to the men and women in our Police Department.”

City Administrator, Dale Neiman, added, “Allan McClain has a demonstrated record of professional law enforcement experience and will be a positive addition to the City”s management team. I look forward to a long and positive working relationship. I am pleased with everything I have seen from him during this selection process. I am confident that both the employees of the police department and the citizens we serve will be equally impressed with his commitment to quality customer service.”
