LAKEPORT — Champions on the field and champions in the classroom. The Clear Lake High School softball team continues to pile up the awards.

The Cardinals, undefeated during the season at 27-0 and winners of the North Central League I South and North Coast Section Class A titles, also posted one of the best grade point averages in the section, which stretches from the Oregon border to the southern end of the Bay Area.

In fact, Clear Lake tied Justin Siena High School of Napa for the best GPA in Class A (3.40) for the 2007 season. Kelseyville was third at 3.27. Teams that finish in the top three in GPA in their sport are designated Scholastic Championship Teams by the NCS.

The Cardinals also had 10 scholar athletes (GPAs of 3.5 or higher), including four Jen Carley, Rylie Gabehart, Emilee Meyer and Kaila Sterbank with perfect GPAs of 4.0. Also honored were Corinne McKinney, Katie Reynolds, Apryl Comstock, Kacie Hinchcliff and sisters Haley and Liz Sanderson.
