LAKE COUNTY — Felony charges were filed against CHP Sgt. Timothy Poindexter Wednesday following an investigation by the Lake County District Attorney”s Office, according to a press release issued by Deputy D.A. Richard Hinchcliff late Thursday.
Poindexter faces felony charges of “elder abuse of a financial nature” as well as a grand theft of personal property charge “arising out of a real estate transaction with a local elderly Finley couple,” according to the release. It goes on to state that the CHP put Poindexter on administrative leave while an internal affairs investigation is conducted.
CHP Sgt. Jason Cavett referred all comment about the matter to the D.A.”s office, but confirmed that Poindexter was placed on administrative leave Thursday morning before his shift, which was the first possible opportunity the CHP had to do so after finding out the charges were filed.
Poindexter is scheduled to appear for arraignment Friday at 9 a.m. in Dept. 2 of the Lake County Courthouse.
