LUCERNE — After the county Board of Supervisors voted to buy the property on which it sits, the large blue structure fondly known as the Blue Monster, which obstructs residents” view of the lake, is slated for demolition in July.
Deputy Redevelopment Director Eric Seely said bidding for the job will open and close on Wednesday, with the demolition tentatively expected in mid to late July. It”s between two local contractors, Seely said, and whichever one gets the contract will need to obtain permits from county Air Quality Control, the building department, and possibly from Caltrans for a shoulder closure permit.
“It”s an older building with a lot of additions, and it”s had water intrusion over the years,” said Seely, explaining why there is not much of the structure that can be salvaged as the BOS had hoped. “But things like doors, windows and cabinets would be salvaged prior to the demo,” he added.
