LAKEPORT – The “King of the Hill Challenge” auto racing series returns to the Lakeport Speedway Saturday night for the 11th of 22 scheduled events between the Lakeport and Ukiah Speedways. Scheduled to compete Saturday will be the mini stocks, Guy Strohmeier bombers and bonus bombers, the Airport Auto Brokers late models, and the visiting Legends Cars of the Pacific. The modified division has the weekend off.

Saturday”s race marks the half-way point in the newly-formed series between the two neighboring speedways. The series has been warmly accepted by all the competing drivers, and it gives spectators an opportunity to see a variety of racing at two totally different configured race tracks. Ukiah promoter Blair Aiken and Lakeport”s Bob and Nadine Strauss are all pleased with the success of the series, and hope to continue the venture into the 2008 season.

Points leaders in the King of the Hill Series three-time modified champion Terry McIntire of K elseyville in the modified division, Robert Schmidt of Lucerne in the mini stock class, Forrest Kuecker of Lucerne in the late model division, Andy Vanderveer of Santa Rosa in the bonus bomer class, and the team of Ron Duke Sr. and Jr. from Ukiah in the bomber class. Points are awarded to the top five qualifiers in each division as well as the heat races and feature events.

Gates open at the speedway Saturday at 5:00 pm and racing begins at 7:00 pm. For more information about the auto races, call the speedway office at 707-274-2844.
