Well, here we are in the beginning of a drought, hopefully a short one, advertising “Safe and Sane Fireworks” on the front page of our paper (Record-Bee, June 28) .
Let”s be real. Many children and adults of many ages really enjoy the Fourth of July because of the fireworks. Lakeport is the only place to buy fireworks legally in Lake County, but does anyone believe those purchased fireworks stay in Lakeport?
I really like the shows put on by the cities around the lake because they are done in a safe manner.
It”s the individuals that don”t think they are causing any harm that need to consider how dangerous a fire can be and how fast a fire can move. Please think about the tinder dry conditions and look at the devastation caused by the Tahoe fire so far. The same thing could happen here in Lake County.

Editor”s Note: The lead story in Thursday”s paper did include references to “Safe and Sane Fireworks,” but the intent and context of the piece dealt with public safety and education about fireworks in Lakeport and greater Lake County.
