LAKEPORT — Derek Copeland, a 16-year-old from Cottonwood, won the Legends Cars of the Pacific main event on Saturday night as the King of the Hill Challenge Series continued at the Lakeport Speedway.

Also visiting the winner”s circle Saturday were Charlie Collins of Nice, who won his first Airport Auto Brokers Late Model main event; Andy Vanderveer of Santa Rosa, who took the checkered flag in the Guy Strohmeier Auto Center bonus bomber division after setting a new speedway qualifying record (13.940 seconds) earlier in the evening; Robert Schmidt of Lucerne, who set the fast time before chalking up his sixth main event victory in the mini-stock division; and Redwood Valley”s Ron Duke, who registered season win No. 6 in the Guy Strohmeier Auto Center bomber class.

Legends Cars

Copeland took the checkered flag in the Legends Car feature ahead of Steven Cantrell, McKenna Bell, Matt Scott and Frankie Marks.

The fast time went to 17-year-old Zachery Kavert of Redding at 13.866. Marks won the trophy dash and heat wins went to Kavert, Fred Clement and Jack Humphrey.

Late Models

Collins” main event victory in the Late Model division came in front of runner-up Blair Aiken, third-place finisher David Furia, John Dalerio and fast qualifier Mike Lovell (12.528).

Furia won the trophy dash and Dalerio topped the field in the heat race.

Bombers

Duke took the checkered flag in the bomber A-main event in front of Shelby Helm, Randy Portlock, Scott Sabol and Tony Ramazzotti. Jon Waner won the B-main in front of Andy Norton and Ronald Portlock.

Duke”s fast qualifying time was 14.864 seconds.

Heat winners were Portlock, Helm and Robert Byers. Manya Tenney won the trophy dash.

Bonus bombers

Vanderveer finished in front of George Mavrakis, Eric Johnson, Sean Keown and Bill Mucci in the bonus bomber main event.

Johnson won the trophy dash and won one of the two heat races. Manuel Antonio won the other heat.

Mini-stocks

Schmidt”s main event victory in the mini-stock division came in front of Todd Armstrong, Davey Coyne, Jim Keown and Mitch Preston.

Keown won the trophy and Schmidt captured the heat race. Schmidt”s fast qualifying time was 14.006.
