MOORPARK — He”s the Athlete of the Year … again.

Former Kelseyville High baseball standout Paul Olson, the 2004-05 Lake County Record-Bee male Athlete of the Year, was recently named Moorpark College”s Athlete of the Year following a stellar 2007 baseball season.

Olson, a 2005 Kelsey-ville High graduate, batted .301 from the No. 5 slot in the Moorpark batting order while also playing solid defense at all of the infield positions for the team. The Athlete of the Year award earned him a $1,000 scholarship.

Olson, 20, also was named to the All-Western State Conference second team at Moorpark, where he caught the eyes of Division I college scouts. In fact, he”ll be transferring to Mississippi Valley State, a Division I program, on a full-ride scholarship for his junior and senior seasons.

After graduating from Kelseyville, where he starred in football, basketball and baseball for the Knights, Olson attended The Master”s College in Santa Clarita his freshman year before moving to Moorpark for his sophomore year.

Mississippi Valley State, located in Itta Bena, competes in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and is best known for producing wide receiver Jerry Rice of the San Francisco 49ers.

Olson”s younger brother, Ben, a 2006 Kelseyville High School graduate, red-shirted this past season at Moorpark and is transferring to Butte College in Oroville this fall.

Paul and Ben are the sons of Paul and Sharon Olson of Kelseyville.
