LAKEPORT — The fabled Bay Cities Racing Association DMS Race Products Midget series charges into the quarter-mile Lakeport Speedway on Saturday, continuing the pavement portion of the DMS Race Products BCRA Midget schedule as part of the annual Deake Lyndall Memorial race.
Among the frontrunners will be Lakeport”s own Eric Mostin, who is vying for his fourth BCRA Midget feature triumph in front of the hometown crowd. Mostin was the BCRA Mid-get winner last month at Lakeport.
Other frontrunners include 16-year-old BCRA points leader Justin Grant of Ione, piloting the No. 30 Tim Grant Beast/Esslinger; reigning two-time BCRA champion John Sarale of Stockton, wheeling the Sarale Farms No. 32 Beast/Riolo Chevy; current third-place pointsman David Prickett of Fresno, hoping to capture his first top-three finish by wheeling the No. 15 Neverlift Motorsports Hawk/Van Dyne; leading BCRA rookie Kevin Morris, chauffeuring father Del”s No. 17k Beast/Esslinger; and seven-time BCRA champion Floyd Alvis in his No. 18 Champion Automotive Stealth/Van Dyne.
Trying to capture an unprecedented eighth BCRA championship, Alvis currently rests second in the DMS Race Products BCRA Midget series points, 102 points behind Grant.
Sarale won in 2006 at Lakeport.
Struggling early in the season with mechanical gremlins, BCRA hard-charger Travis Berryhill will be driving his “Spirit of American Canyon” No. 11 Stealth/Esslinger, hoping to catapult his points ranking.
Aiming at rebounding from a vicious flip two weeks ago in the dirt at Placerville, Sacramento”s Ralphie “The Racer” Cortez will be manning the wheel of the No. 31 Shores/Cortez pavement Beast/Sesco-Mopar. Cortez is fourth overall in BCRA points and second in the pavement championship.
Other drivers expected to compete in the fifth of nine DMS Race Products BCRA Midget series pavement races of 2007 include 2002 third-place driver and car owner champion Bill Lindsey of San Carlos, chauffeuring the No. 31 Jim Fowler Beast/Esslinger; Nick Foster, Jr., piloting Rick Faeth”s No. 3 Stealth/Chevy V4; Mike Donaldson in the No. 87 Stu Donaldson Stealth/Gaerte; and Santa Rosa”s Gary Dickenson in his No. 8 Stealth/Pontiac.
Late Models, mini-stocks, bombers and bonus bombers join the DMS Race Products BCRA Midgets on Saturday during the Deake Lyndall Memorial.
