There are some issues that transcend politics. Ken Engledow”s letter to the editor (Record-Bee, June 28) is a good example. From his letter I understand that his politics differ from mine. But on the issue of illegal immigration, and our elected officials” arrogance towards the public, there is common ground.
It is a good thing that the Senate killed the “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” bill. But that would not have happened if the people had not risen up and put the heat on our elected officials. The issue was simply too large to consider partisanship or party affiliation.
I am very disappointed in President Bush over this issue. I voted for the man twice. I am equally disappointed in Senators Feinstein and Boxer in supporting the bill. Both voted to end debate on the bill and bring it to a vote. Passage of the bill, and eventual enactment, would have led to the destruction of America as we know it.
I find myself heartened that on some large issues that effect our country, we as Americans, can come together as one for the future welfare of our nation. Thank you Ken for your letter. There may be issues on which we might differ. But not this one, we have common ground as Americans first.
