Driving home from Lakeport on Soda Bay Road, I noticed that the two key tourist attractions are surrounded by overgrown brush and extremely dry trees. I have also noticed an increase in trash along the roadway now that it is tourist season.
The State Park and Konocti Harbor Resort attract customers because of the beauty of Mt. Konocti. However, if we go up in smoke, they will not profit in the future. Many of their customers are ignorant of the fire danger and are more likely to be careless with lighted cigarettes.
It seems that both parties could use some of their gate fees to take care of these fire safety issues. And if the surrounding areas are or are not their own property, why isn”t the fire department fining the irresponsible parties and forcing them to take action to protect the Konocti Riviera?
