LAKEPORT — The Lakeport Police are investigating a gang-related assault on a teenage boy in the evening hours of the Fourth of July.

Units were dispatched to the area of 11th and Pool streets at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night, where a young man reported to be walking down the street was attacked by five or six males and beaten over the head with a large rock, according to an LPD press release.

The 14-year-old victim, whose name could not be released because he is a juvenile, was taken by ambulance to Sutter Lakeside Hospital for treatment of the serious head injury that resulted. Police Chief Kevin Burke said the teen was alert and responsive when officers arrived on the scene.

One male suspect was identified as a 16-year-old who is a documented Norteno gang member, according to the LPD. Six officers went to that teen”s residence and after a probation search, arrested him for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting a peace officer with criminal street gang enhancements and violation of probation.

Burke said the Norteno teen was on probation for juvenile offenses which, because of his age, are not public record.

“We are still actively investigating this,” said Burke. “We have some leads on the identification of the other individuals involved and expect to make some arrests.”

The Lakeport Police Department requests that anyone with information regarding this incident contact Officers Jarvis Leishman or Destry Henderson at 263-5491.
