LAKEPORT — With an 18-17 victory over Willits in the second game, Westshore Little League”s 9-10 Softball All-Stars swept the best-of-three series two games to none to win their first District Championship on Saturday in Lakeport.
Next up for the Westshore All-Stars is the Section I playoffs beginning today at Treasure Island.
In Westshore”s title-clinching win against Willits, Lillian Lambert had the red-hot bat for Westshore as she went 4-for-5 with three runs scored. Victoria Zendajas went 2-for-2 with a triple and two walks, Kelcie Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a triple and four runs scored, and Erica Phillips went 2-for-3.
Westshore pitchers Lambert and Heather Werner combined for five strikeouts.
In the first game on July 6, Westshore beat Willits 6-3 behind a stellar pitching effort by Reynolds, who recorded all 18 outs in the six-inning game by stikeout. She also didn”t allow a hit although she walked seven and hit two.
Westshore built an early lead and never looked back. Taylor Robbins and Courtney Gunther each went 2-for-3 for Westshore, Lambert went 1-for-3 and Aliza Atkins went 1-for-2.
