LAKE COUNTY — Two incidents in less than 24 hours are keeping the Lake County Sheriff”s Office busy.
A father and son were arrested on felony drug-related charges in their Clearlake Oaks home Wednesday following a response that involving several deputies, a helicopter and a high-risk traffic stop, according to a Wednesday LCSO press release.
Laurz Taylor Settera, 18, reportedly called 911 at 8:35 a.m. and said that he and his father, later identified as Marcus John Settera, 44, “had been held for hours in their home by two armed men,” states the release. Laurz Settera also claimed the men shot his father in the leg and then drove away with him in the father”s Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Seven patrol deputies began a search, including one searching from a helicopter, says the report.
Deputies contacted Laurz Settera and went with him to his Clearlake Oaks home in the meantime, where they found a “significant growing operation” in the home. Laurz Settera reportedly told deputies that he and his father lived in Ukiah and rented the Clearlake Oaks home for the purpose of growing marijuana.
When Marcus Settera”s Jeep was found in Lucerne shortly before 11 a.m. that morning, two deputies stopped him using a “high-risk stop,” believing one or more suspects were in the vehicle.
Marcus Settera reported that he”d had an appointment that morning and had been out of his home for more than two hours, confirming that he had not been shot, abducted or held by armed men in his home.
Both men were arrested on felony counts of growing and selling or furnishing marijuana; Laurz Settera was also arrested on a misdemeanor charge of filing a false report.
Assault with deadly weapon
In other law enforcement news, an incident involving assault with a deadly weapon on multiple victims in the neighborhood on Yellow Hammer Court early Thursday morning is still under investigation, according to Lake County Sheriff Rodney Mitchell.
He said one male suspect was identified, but did not release his name. Mitchell confirmed that deputies were dispatched at 5:30 a.m. to the scene, where the suspect reportedly used a baseball bat, and possibly another weapon, on more than one victim.
One victim”s injuries were “significant,” said Mitchell, constituting a felony. One victim was flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, possibly with head injuries, Mitchell said. There were no fatalities.
Five people were reportedly involved, some of which Mitchell said may be categorized as witnesses.
The suspect remains at large, and the investigation is ongoing with more interviews needing to be conducted, Mitchell said.
