UPDATED:

Police Chief Allan McClain recently met with Gregg McConnell, publisher of the Clear Lake Observer*American and the Lake County Record-Bee, and with Record-Bee managing editor Rick Kennedy. During their conversation, McClain brought up the possibility of having officers walk a beat.

Those of us in the newsroom who attended the Lake County Sheriff”s Citizens” Academy have heard Sheriff Rod Mitchell”s observation that when officers were put into cars, they lost the personal interactions that came with walking a beat.

Police Chief McClain should be applauded for his efforts to reintroduce a personal connection between the citizens of Clearlake and the peace officers who work to keep them safe.
