LAKEPORT — It”s vintage racing, both figuratively and literally.

When the vintage race cars of the Nostalgia Race Car Group visit the quarter-mile oval at the Lakeport Speedway on Saturday night, many classic cars of yesteryear will be on display and in action during the night”s busy racing program, which also includes “King of the Hill Challenge Series” competition in the modified, mini-stock, bomber and bonus bomber divisions, as well as the “Fiberglass 500” boat race.

Among the vintage racers on hand will be super modifieds, hardtops, old NASCAR stock cars and even a car built for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Drivers taking part include Mike Neilson, Ken Bonnema, Danny Feifer, Mike McClure, Bob Filippi, Denise Smith, Don Johnson, Andy Scopazzi, Brian Yates, Robert Holloway and John Cordell.

“Nothing beats the sound of a super modified!” said NRCG driver Yates. “Old race cars are kept alive and running to keep the memory of tracks such as Ascot, Fremont, Vallejo, West Capitol and Stockton fresh in the memory of us all.

“You can meet all the drivers, sit in the cars and talk about days gone by,” Yates added.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. Admission prices are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (62 and older) and students (12-17), and $6 for kids.

Call the speedway office at 274-2844 for more information.
