Ruth McGowan Penfield Schuettenhelm, 88, wife of John Schuettenhelm, and beloved mother of four children, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Daughters are Joan Penfield Silver, of Chandler, Ariz.; Jean Penfield Purcell, of San Diego; sons Robert Penfield of Greenfield Mass. and Harold Penfield (now deceased). Ruth passed away in her sleep Saturday morning after a brief illness.
Ruth was a long time resident of Lakeport with her husband John. She left her home in Greenfield, Mass. to live in Lakeport where she met John. They fell in love and married in 1984 and had a wonderful and long marriage. They traveled often and loved their life together living close by the lake.
She was born April 23, 1919, in Boston, Mass. and grew up attending schools in Northfield, Mass.
After marrying Jim Penfield, they settled in Greenfield, Mass. and remained there during the years their children and some of their grandchildren grew up. In 1980, Ruth was widowed when her first husband died of heart failure in Crossville Tenn.
Ruth was a housewife and mother who loved nothing better than to cook and care for her grandchildren and they remember well all grandma”s wonderful sweets. Her children still bake her wonderful recipes for Ruth”s now adult grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family holds fond, loving memories of her. Her loss is deeply felt by all who knew her.
Services will be held at 5 p.m. on Aug. 3 at United Christian Parish, 745 North Brush Street, Lakeport.
In lieu of flowers, John has requested that donations be made in the name of Ruth Schuettenhelm to the Fisher House Foundation at www.fisherhouse.org.
