UPDATED:

Helen Slater was born Jan. 8, 1919 in San Francisco of parents that came from Greece. She passed away July 25, 2007. One of six children, she lived and worked for the IRS in San Francisco. Helen and her husband Bill moved to Lakeport in 1984 and built their retirement home on property they had purchased in 1955.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, W.K. (Bill) Slater; daughter, Leslie Slater (Tim Snider); granddaughter, Sarah Santana (Auggie); great-grandchildren, William and Emily; sisters, Mary, Tula and Mart; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Billy, sister Virginia, and brother Jim.

She loved collecting glass beads and making necklaces with them. She was always complemented on the beautiful beads that she loved to wear.

Helen possessed a sense of humor that was both subtle and delightful. Her gentle peacemaking spirit touched all who met her with a lasting sense of what is best in being human. She held no ill will, was a very loyal person and never forgot a kindness done to her.

When recalling Helen”s wonderful qualities, one is struck with the realization that she was a rare completely good person who left no bad memories. To say she will be missed is not enough. She has left a big hole in our hearts that will never be filled, because someone like Helen can come only once in a lifetime.
