Shirley Jean Slayden

Shirley Jean Slayden, age 76, of Lakeport, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and cousin, died suddenly at her home on July 24, 2007. She was born on Dec. 16, 1930 in Kalispell, Mont., to Estella Grace Savage and O.V. Isaacs.
Shirley grew up in Kalispell, Mont., and California and graduated from Porterville High School in 1947. A lifelong learner, Shirley graduated from business school in 1949 where she first discovered an interest for computers. She had a distinguished and enjoyable career as a homemaker, walnut grower and as a respected genealogical researcher known for her meticulous documentation skills. Shirley could usually be found gardening, reading with a cat in her lap, or at her computer where she communicated with friends and family across the nation.
Shirley”s son O.V. Slayden and daughter-in-law Jane of Portland, Ore., and Samuel Slayden and daughter-in-law Wendy survive her, as well as her sister Opal Loveless of Polson, Mont.
Shirley always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Grace, James, Mark and Michael, who will carry her humor and curiosity with them all their lives.
Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Bobbie Slayden, her parents, her sister Ruth Deutsch and her brother Merle Isaacs.
Many other dear friends and family members remember her fondly.
A private family service is planned at Hartley Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Eucalyptus officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association or the Lake County SPCA in the name of Shirley Jean Slayden.
