Jane was born Nov. 19, 1942 in Fowler, Ind. She departed this life Aug. 4, 2007, her inconsolable husband Richard at her side. She leaves behind two beloved sons Kevin and Brian and two very special grandchildren Vincent and Natalie.
Jane was an unusually competent woman, learning to cook for her mother and five siblings when she was 12. At 17 she became self supporting, working for the local superintendent of schools as secretary and stenographer. At 19 she met her teacher husband-to-be Richard. They were married for 43 years. With the help of their two young sons they built a home amongst the redwoods in Humboldt County, often working 12-hour days together.
The last 27 years were spent in Lakeport, where Jane worked as administrative assistant to the Board of Supervisors for many years. During her tenure there, she acquired numerous friends.
Although she was an avid cook, baker, seamstress and home decorator, her favorite activities were gardening and singing. She loved flowers; she loved music. In her 50s she pursued an avocation in operatic singing, culminating in many local performances.
The most enduring tribute to this vivacious lady is our own upwelling thoughts of her when her name is mentioned. Jane”s intelligence, wit, caring, loyalty and love are remembered and cherished.
There will be a memorial for Jane at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Lakeport English Inn, 675 N. Main St. Lakeport.
