LAKE COUNTY ? 5 p.m. is the deadline today for anyone who wants to run for a position in this fall”s General District Elections.

Slated to take place Tuesday, Nov. 6, the elections will fill vacant spots in the county”s school districts and special districts. Following is a listing of who”s running for what, as reported by Lake County Registrar of Voters Diane Fridley.

Four seats are open on the Mendocino-Lake Community College District board, including one for Trustee Area No. 7 in Lake County. Vying for the slot are Jerry DeChaine, a professor of chemistry at Mendocino College and incumbent Gary Taylor.

The Lake County Board of Education has three openings, with Larry A. Juchert running against incumbent David Browning in Trustee Area 4, and incumbents George Ryder and Mark Cooper running unchallenged thus far in Trustee Areas 1 and 2, respectively.

The four candidates for three vacancies on the Kelseyville Unified School District are Mireya Gehring Turner, assistant clerk to the Board of Supervisors, Chris Irwin, sales manager, appointed incumbent Don Boyd and incumbent Valerie A. Ramirez.

Lakeport Unified School District likewise has three open seats and four candidates. They include school administrator Philip T. Kirby and incumbents Bob Weiss, Robyn K. Stevenson and Craig Kinser. Incumbent Andy Dobusch had not filed for the election as of Thursday, according to Fridley.

Running against incumbent Colleen Alexander for the the two vacancies in Upper Lake Union High School district are sales/marketing director Gary Lewis and business owner Dawn R. Binns. Incumbent Ron Bryant had not filed as of Thursday. If he does not file by 5 p.m. today, said Fridley, there will be a five-day extension for non-incumbents wishing to run for the spot.

Lucerne Elementary School District has one vacancy on its three-member board, with retired teacher Kay Hancock running against incumbent Bruce I. Higgins.

Unless another candidate files for one of two open spots on the Upper Lake Union Elementary School District by the close of business today, the election will close with incumbents Walt Christensen and Valerie Petz occupying the seats.

Three South Lake County Fire Protection District seats and two in the Kelseyville Fire Protection District may be filled by incumbents without opposition.

Incumbents also look to fill all open seats uncontended on the governing boards of Adams Springs, Buckingham Park, Cobb Area County, Konocti County and Villa Blue Estates water districts, as well as the Hidden Valley Lake Community Serivces District.

Retired controller Linda Olhiser is running uncontested for the Callayomi County Water District, leaving one spot still open. Likewise, Upper Lake County Water District has two incumbents filed in the election for three open spots, and Scotts Valley Water Conservation District has no one filed for its one open position.

Five candidates are contending for three seats in the Clearlake Oaks County Water District, including retired Telecom Manager Telen G. Locke, retired law enforcement officer Mike Anisman, and incumbents Glenn Rowe, June A. Greene and Bob White.
