Ronald William Hendrik passed away peacefully at Kentfield Rehabilitation Center in Marin County after a long illness on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007. Ron had been a resident of Clearlake for the past 10 years.
Ron is survived by his wife of 16 years, Patricia Hendrik of Clearlake; son, Timothy Strickland (Amy) of San Francisco; sister, Lillian Ann Kirkpatrick of Bremerton, Wash.; and niece and nephew Michelle and Monty Kirkpatrick, also of Bremerton.
Ronald was born on July 20, 1941 to Mary and Frank Hendrik, and raised on Boise Lane in Fort Bragg. He graduated from Fort Bragg High School in 1960, where he played saxophone in the band. Ron had a passion for the ocean and spent his youth abalone diving with his dog King. Ron was always in search of thrills and completed over 100 parachute jumps in his life. He also enjoyed working on cars and racing motorcycles. His father Frank and godfather Henry Carolo were two of the founders of the Pentecost Hall.
Ron had the honor of being the president of the hall for a few years and it was among the many places where he loved to call bingo games.
Ron was a baker for 28 years. He trained as an apprentice in Fort Bragg, and his first job as a professional baker was at the Model Bakery in Ukiah. He later owned popular donut shops in Lakeport and Fort Bragg. After retiring from baking, he ran his own business delivering Mendocino travel guides throughout northern California.
An excellent story teller, Ron had a unique and intimate knowledge of the northern coast. His voice and sense of humor will be greatly missed by many.
At Ron”s request, his ashes will be scattered at sea off the coast of Fort Bragg during a private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the name of Ron Hendrik to the American Heart Association.
