For those Record Bee readers who did not see the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, there was a story maybe a month ago about a kitten in Santa Rosa named Adam who was intentionally set on fire ? alive. There have also been occasional updates and they have arrested two teenage girls.
But because they are teenagers they are saying the charge will likely be dropped from a felony to a misdemeanor. The latest update the other day noted that there”s an online petition called “Adams Amendment”.
The author is petitioning Congress to increase the penalty for animal abuse from the current three years to six years. I would like to encourage all those interested to go online and sign this petition. The website is: Care2.com; click on “petitions” (in the white box), then click on “animal welfare” at left of screen, and lastly click on “Help prevent animal cruelty”. Maybe if the penalty were increased, the abusers might think twice before committing such horrific abuses such as this one.
But just as important as “thinking twice”, maybe some of these abusers could just stop for a moment, put themselves in the animals place and try to imagine what that abuse would feel like to them if they were the animal. Please lend your support to this amendment petition.
