UKIAH — Forrest Kuecker, Noel McCormack Jr., Andy Vanderveer, Anthony McCoy and Kyle Tellstrom all had something in common Saturday — they won the main events in their respective divisions — during King of the Hill Challenge Series action at the Ukiah Speedway.
Late Models
Kuecker, the Late Models points leader, added to his lead by taking the checkered flag in front of Sean Caturegli, David Furia, Jeremy Hopkins and Charlie Collins in the main event.
Hopkins set the fast time (12.967 seconds), denying Kuecker a sweep. Kuecker also won the trophy dash and the heat race.
Modifieds
McCormack Jr. moved up to ninth in the modified point standings by winning the feature race in front of Jeremy Nowlin, Thomas Wright, Richie Potts and Clay Caturegli. McComrack Jr. also set the fast time (13.242).
Potts won the trophy dash and heat wins went to Nowlin, Derrick Crayford and Mark Marek.
Bonus bombers
Vanderveer lengthened his lead in the bonus bomber point standings with another main event win. He beat Eric Johnson, Bill Binns, Bill Mucci and David Jones to the finish line in the feature race.
Vanderveer”s solid effort also included the best qualifying time (14.860) and a heat win.
Other winners were Jared Martin in the trophy dash and Jerry Crapo in the first heat.
Bombers
McCoy beat George Abella, Jon Waner, Shelby Helm and Randy Portlock to the finish line in the bomber main event. Points leader Ron Duke had the fast time (15.708).
Other winners were Abella in the trophy dash and Andy Norton, Mike Bray and Derrick Crayford in the heat races.
Norton also won the B-main event, beating out Kevin Brackett and Lou Tustin.
Bandoleros
Points leader Tellstrom held off points runner-up Drew Smith to win the bandoleros main event. Brenton Smith came in third, JayCee McLean was fourth, and Darrin Silva came in fifth.
Tellstrom holds a 699-688 lead over Smith, who set the fast time (15.589). Tellstrom won the trophy heat.
The King of the Hill Challenge Series returns to Lakeport this Saturday night. The race cards includes the Late Models, modifieds, mini-stocks, bonus bombers and bombers. Racing returns to the Ukiah Speedway Sept. 1-2 for the Red Fox 125 featuring the North State Challenge Series Late Models and the Legends Cars of the Pacific.
