LAKEPORT — The final points race for the 2007 Northern California Racing Association season is Saturday night at the Lakeport Speedway, where champions in four divisions — modifieds, mini-stocks, bonus bombers and bombers — will be crowned.
Also running Saturday night are the Airport Auto Brokers Late Models.
Kelseyville”s Terry McIntire is going for his unprecedented fourth consecutive Lakeport Speedway championship in the modified division. McIntire was the first driver to win three in a row at Lakeport and he”ll try to add to his consecutive number of championships Saturday.
McIntire began his racing career in 1994 and won a mini-stock championship
In 1995. He graduated to the modified division in 2002 and finished fourth. The following year, he finished second behind veteran driver Bob Strauss.
In 2004, McIntire and his racing team finally put it all together, winning their first championship. He repeated as modified champion in 2005 and ”06 and is on the verge of adding another title this season.
Running second in modified points behind McIntire is Windsor”s Derrick Crayford. He and third-place runner Jeremy Nowlin are the only drivers who could possibly derail McIntire in his quest for another title.
In the mini-stock division, Robert Schmidt of Lucerne is out in front by 46 points over Todd Armstrong and Davey Coyne. Andy Vandeveer of Santa Rosa has already chalked up enough points in the bonus bomber division to clinch that championship, and the team of Ron Duke Jr. and Ron Duke Sr. are out in front of Shelby Helm by 68 points in the bomber class.
A driver can earn up to 105 points during each race.
The modifieds, Late Models, mini-stocks, bombers and bonus bombers are also running in the King of the Hill Challenge Series for an overall points champion between the Lakeport and Ukiah speedwayw. That championship will be decided on Sept. 8 in Ukiah.
