LOWER LAKE ? A head-on collision on Highway 29 north of Diener Road took the life of one woman and closed down the highway for two hours Sunday as the scene was investigated, according to a preliminary California Highway Patrol (CHP) report.
Clearlake Oaks resident Sally Anne Waddell, age 51, did not survive the accident. She was driving a Hyundai Accent northbound on Highway 29 Sunday evening when for unknown reasons her vehicle swerved across double yellow lines and hit an oncoming 1998 three-quarter-ton Chevy 2500 head-on, according to the CHP report.
Sonoma resident Tina Hendry, 43, was driving the Chevy with three passengers. The report indicates that at least two of the four occupants were taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital with minor injuries.
Another unidentified vehicle that had been headed south on Highway 29 behind the Chevy narrowly missed the accident by swerving off of the road into a ditch, said Dye.
No injuries were reported.CHP officer Mark Barnes was reportedly transporting an arrestee to the Lake County Jail when he came upon the accident, which had apparently happened moments earlier.
Dye said toxicology tests are taken as a matter of course in a fatal collision. Those results were not available as the Record-Bee was going to press Monday.
