UPPER LAKE — Battling triple-digit heat as well as the Willits Wolverines, the Upper Lake High School girls” and boys” soccer teams came away with ties on Wednesday during non-league action at Upper Lake High School.
The varsity girls scored three first-half goals for a 3-0 lead, but Willits rallied with three second-half goals for a 3-3 tie. In the varsity boys” game that followed, the visiting Wolverines scored a goal late in the second half to pull out a 2-2 tie against the Cougars.
In girls” action, Yessica Ayala scored eight minutes into the first half for Upper Lake and she scored again a short time later to make it 2-0. Becca Breton assisted on both goals.
Upper Lake went up 3-0 in the 15th minute of the first half on a goal by Taryn Re.
“But we couldn”t do anything else on offense after that,” Upper Lake coach Anna Santana said.
Upper Lake is 1-0-1.
In the boys” game, Javier Cruz scored Upper Lake”s first goal and Jon Philpott had the second, that on a penalty kick.
“They looked better today,” Upper Lake coach Kyle Moore said of the 0-2-1 Cougars. “We”re getting better every game.
