LAKEPORT — Freshman Jesse Sondag made her high school debut a memorable one on Thursday night in a non-league varsity volleyball match against the visiting Geyserville Bronchos.
Sondag pounded out 11 kills and also had 10 service points as the Cardinals beat Geyserville 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 25-16 in the season opener for both teams.
“She did great,” said Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds, who also was making her debut as the Cardinals” head coach.
“We were minus one of our starting hitters (Kirsten Wascom), but Brianna Marsh stepped up and had two blocks and three kills,” Psalmonds said.
Other standouts for the Cardinals were Danielle Howard with six kills and 11 points and Katie Reynolds with 10 points and 13 assists.
The Cardinals (1-0) are home again next Thursday to play the Kelseyville Knights in a non-league match. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m.
