LAKE COUNTY? A 63-year-old Sutter woman was seriously injured Wednesday when her vehicle ran off the road and flipped over onto the traffic lane. There were no other vehicles or persons involved in the accident, CHP said.
Sidne Allread was westbound on Highway 20 west of Bruner Drive in Lucerne driving her 2003 Mazda Prot?g? with no other passengers when the car left the roadway to the north, ascended a steep cutbank, hit a mass of rocks, and rolled onto its roof into the westbound lane, CHP said.
She was driving at an unknown speed, and her vehicle left the road for unknown reasons. There were no eyewitnesses to the accident. About five vehicles arrived upon the accident and dialed 911, emergency personnel arrived shortly after the 10:30 a.m. crash and provided medical aid.
A REACH helicopter was called and airlifted the victim to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, medical personnel at the scene of the accident determined the victim suffered multiple fractures and major head injury.An eyewitness to the scene of the crash, Jennifer Anderson of Clear Lake Oaks was heading to work when she came upon the accident.
“I saw a car that was turned over, there were about four people standing by the car. I got out to see if I could help, she was caught in her seat belt but she was talking a little bit, and groaning.”
“It was horrible, her foot was completely severed, we got out some baby diapers and wrapped up her leg to try and get the bleeding to stop, but right about then she lost consciousness, and her breathing slowed down,” said Anderson.
According to CHP, the victim never regained consciousness at the scene of the crash.
Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital marketing manager Pricilla Locke said Allread is in critical and stable condition as of Thursday afternoon.
