BOONVILLE — Sandy Coatney said he expected to see a bit more from his Upper Lake Cougars in their season-opening loss to the Anderson Valley Panthers on Tuesday in Boonville.
“They (Panthers) let you make mistakes,” Coatney said. “This early in the season … we made plenty of them. But they are mistakes we can correct and will correct.”
Anderson Valley beat the Cougars 25-18, 26-24, 25-6 in the non-league varsity volleyball opener for both teams. Upper Lake”s junior varsity also lost but did a win game against the Panthers, who prevailed 25-18, 19-25, 16-14.
Two bright spots for the varsity Cougars were Hannah Johnson with 12 kills and Dani Paige Gudmundson with eight kills.
“Those two played real well,” Coatney said.
The Cougars travel to Lower Lake on Tuesday.
