A new cookbook, featuring locally-contributed recipes, benefits Highlands Senior Services Center, Inc.

“It has been a project of mine for several years, and I finally decided to push it to the limit,” said Betty Votaw, organizer of the project. “I said we would not do one unless we had a minimum of 150 recipes — and we made it.”

The three-ring, padded-cover cookbook organizes the recipes into sections that include; “Appetizers & Beverages, Soups & Salads, Vegetables & Side Dishes, Main Dishes, Breads & Rolls, Desserts, Cookies & Candy and This & That.” Helpful hints and a book stand are included.

The books are available at $10 and Votaw pointed out that purchases are tax-deductible.

Sales of the cookbook will support HSSC, which Votaw reported serves about 50 sit-down lunches daily at the Clearlake Senior/Community Center, 3245 Bowers Road in Clearlake. Meals-on-Wheels volunteers distribute another 90 hot meals each day.

Votaw added that HSSC offers a range of activities and it welcomes seniors” input regarding other services.

Cookbooks can be purchased at the center. For more information, write Highlands Senior Service Center, Inc., P.O. Box 180, Clearlake, CA 95422; or call 994-3051.

If you want to purchase a cookbook through the mail, please ask about the cost of shipping, as there is an additional fee.
