MIDDLETOWN — St. Vincent beat Middletown 25-10, 25-20, 25-15 in a non-league varsity volleyball match on Thursday at Middletown High School.

It was the season opener for the Mustangs and new coach Jennifer Breiner, who said her mostly young Mustang squad still has quite a bit of learning to do.

“They”re learning their rotations, a new offense and a new defense,” Breiner said. “Once they get a little more comfortable with the whole setting they”ll be fine.”

Kayla Wood”s eight kills paced the Mustangs (0-1) and Jessica Boylan had eight digs, two kills and two aces.

“They hung in there the last two games,” Breiner said.

Middletown won the junior varsity match 25-21, 23-25, 15-9 behind five aces and three kills from Kayla Robinson.
