KELSEYVILLE — Well, it can only get better for the Kelseyville Knights.
Kelseyville and new coach Thad Owens ran into a hungry pack of Healdsburg Greyhounds on Friday night in Kelseyville and it was all Healdsburg — 50-0 — in the varsity football opener for both teams.
Healdsburg”s passing attack and special teams did a number on the Knights (0-1), who trailed 27-0 after one quarter and 43-0 at halftime.
“They were fantastic,” Owens said of the Greyhounds.
“We had some coverage breakdowns on defense and on offense we moved the ball some but couldn”t finish it off,” Owens said.
The Knights also lost five fumbles.
Kelseyville quarterback Mike Duman rushed for a team-high 80 yards and passed for 21 yards, accounting for nearly half of the Knights” total offensive output.
No other statistics or details were available as the Record-Bee went to press Friday night.
Kelseyville”s junior varsity squad also got off to a rough start, falling 35-14.
Kelseyville remains home to take on archrival Clear Lake next Friday.
