UPDATED:

I got up early this morning, and it was a beautiful day. It is good to be alive in Lake County. For the last week or so, I have gotten a few e-mails, and I heard some people talking about flying the flag on 9/11. So I rigged a way to fly the American Flag in front of our home, and put an American Flag on the right front window of my Chevy Silverado and drove to town. I saw one other flag on a residence.

I went to the local lumber yard, and explained to a clerk I know there that I want to fly a flag at my business and that the city told me that the bottom of the flag has to be above the top of the stop sign next to my office. He got me a piece of pipe 21 feet long. I put the flag up in front of my office at the corner of Main and Third. As far as I can see, I am the only business here flying the flag today.

I expected more. Are we already forgetting that day when 3,000 Americans died? Are we forgetting all the casualties in the war on terror? The philosopher George Santayana said: “Those who can not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” I am feeling a bit sad.
