Well-known North Counties musician Gary McLaughlin will lead the newly-formed Sequoia Trio in its first Lake County appearance, when the group appears in concert Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Galilee Lutheran Church on Soda Bay Road. Concert time is 3 p.m.

Violinist McLlaughlin will be joined by cellist Laura McLellan and pianist Florence Aquilina. The group plays standard trio repertoires, but also features many seldom-heard selections that have delighted audiences since their maiden appearance earlier this year. Their program for Lake County will consist of Beethoven”s “Sonata in G Minor for Cello and Piano,” the “Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano” by Brahms, and the showcase “Cafe Music for Trio” by American composer Paul Schoenfield.

McLaughlin has performed in many cities throughout the country and has taught at colleges and universities in four states. He was the former director and conductor of the Oregon Coast Music Festival, and now teaches at Santa Rosa Junior College. He also performs regularly with the Glendeven String Quartet.

McLellen has played with several major orchestras in the U.S. and Canada and has also performed at music festivals in many areas. She has been a concert soloist and an active chamber music player with numerous ensembles. She is now a private music teacher, but also appears with a number of orchestras and chamber groups in Northern California, as well as singing with Cantiamo Sonoma ? a Sonoma County vocal group.

Aquilina will be at the keyboard of CLPA”s Yamaha Concert Grand Piano. She currently teaches at San Domenico Conservatory in San Anselmo as well as at Santa Rosa Junior College, but she has also performed in music festivals in many U.S. cities as well as in Africa. She has held teaching positions in New York State, Florida and South Africa.

Admission to the concert is $10 for members of Clear Lake Performing Arts and $15 for the general public. As with all CLPA-sponsored events, people younger than 18 are admitted free. For further information, contact 279-0877 or 277-7076.
