POTTER VALLEY — Running back Brandon Bills rushed for 190 yards and two touchdowns Saturday afternoon to lead the Upper Lake Cougars past the Potter Valley Bearcats 28-0 in a non-league junior varsity football game at Potter Valley.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Bills spearheaded an Upper Lake rushing attack that accumulated 401 yards. Brent DeCent scored on a 57-yard run ? his only carry of the day — and Benjamin Britton gained 34 yards on five carries with a touchdown.

Michael DiConza intercepted a pass and Paul Rodermal recovered a fumble for the Cougars. Leading tacklers were Brian Richard (six solo, five assists), Bills (six and four) and Rodermel (five and five).

The Cougars (1-0) host Fort Bragg on Saturday at noon.
