LAKEPORT — After a three-week break, auto racing returns to Lakeport Speedway on Saturday night for the fifth annual Marlene Baker Memorial Bomber Bash No. 12 and the final round of the “Fiberglass 500 Asphalt Boat Nationals.”
Slider cars also are scheduled to make their final appearance at the quarter-mile paved oval.
The bomber bash is a tribute to Marlene Baker, who lost her life during a women”s powder puff race at the speedway in August of 2003. The event supports a 50-lap feature race for bombers and bonus bombers, with $500 going to the winner in each event. King of the Hill drivers, coming from both the Lakeport and Ukiah speedways, will be on hand for this special event.
Following the bomber races will be the Lakeport Speedway slider cars. Slider cars have steel plates instead of rear wheels and tires. These cars have a mind of their own and only masters of the track can control these cars and make complete laps without the cars spinning out.
The boat races follow the sliders. This rolling destruction derby features cars towing boats around a wet track. The object is to dislodge the other guy”s boat. Cars are allowed to bump, ram or even drive through a competitor”s boat.
Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 6 p.m. Admission prices are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (62 and older) and students (12-17), and $5 for children. Call the Lakeport Speedway office at 274-2844 for more information.
