Everyday brings us closer to potentially hideous, catastrophic war with Iran. Dick Cheney and crew have constructed plans for an unprovoked attack on Iran that include the use of nuclear weapons. This is all based on lies reminiscent of the lies that brought us the catastrophe in Iraq. The truth is that Iran has at least 10 years before they could produce a nuclear bomb, and the so-called threats by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are misquotes. This war will dwarf the Iraq debacle, and as Col. Sam Gardiner put it after conducting computer war games, “all military options lead to disaster”.
Where is the opposition party on this upcoming disaster? All three of the front running corporate Democrats support this illegal aggression. Clinton and Obama are actually using the administration propaganda slogan “All options are on the table” as their position statements. On our side, Dennis Kucinich opposes the war, and his efforts to begin impeachment of Cheney are looking more essential all the time. A former Army Colonel, Bob Bowman wrote an article encouraging military people to refuse illegal orders to attack. This could be our only hope, but they need our support in this, and impeachment would justify military resistance to national suicide.
Reagan and Bush Sr. referred to the Neocons as “the crazies”. Their insane rantings about a nuclear war with Russia being winnable were dismissed as lunacy then, but now thanks to rampant cheating, these lunatics rule our nation.
It”s time for Americans to stand up and oppose their plans to plunge the world into nuclear war. When the bombs fly and the reality of this sinks in, we will wonder why we did so little to stop it.
