After reading this morning”s edition of the Record Bee (September 20), I felt compelled to voice my displeasure with the Lakeport Unified School Board”s policy decision regarding team colors and their choice to assemble in groups of more than four.
As a past graduate Of Clear Lake High School and one who attended the Lakeport Unified School District from K?12, I find it hard to believe the school board could not modify their current policy regarding colors in a better way.
Wouldn”t it have been simpler, to make the policy regarding colors not to include those involved in sports, as well as extracurricular activities.
I find it hard to believe that in a time where we are bombarded with news of how overweight our kids are and how they hide behind a computer to spend their time, we are now regulating the idea that being united as a team and having pride in one”s appearance could have a negative effect on those around them.
I guess this ban will impact all forms of activities, as well as high school sports teams.
What you”ve done is put a Band-Aid on the problem of possible gang violence in our schools instead of making the effort to teach our children the way to make a proper choice in how to live one”s life .
It”s important to keep our children safe in school, and we need to do everything possible to ensure that when our children leave the house in the morning, they”ll return safe that evening. But thinking that six Viking pee-wee football players sitting together having lunch is a cause for concern is just going way too far.
