The Record-Bee”s recent article about the kids wearing their jerseys is completely ridiculous. What do you want to teach the kids not to be part of a team?
Teams ? all the way to high school ? wear their jersey”s on game days. I have three nephews that play for the Westshore Vikings, so if I had one more, the brothers can”t hang out together? If you say that these kids are in no way part of a gang, then why punish them? Is the same thing happening with the high school players? Let the kids be proud of what they accomplish, let them be proud of being part of something.
It seems to me that Lakeport School is getting out of control. Last year my nephew, who was in 5th grade, had a bad time given to him and his friends at school. There is a group of eight or so that hang out together and play basketball and have fun.
The principal at the time told them to stop being part of a gang. Was it that? You can”t play basketball at lunch? Just because they have fun together and have their own little way of doing things or saying things to each other does not mean they are in a gang. People need to stop freaking out at everything, and let kids be kids.
I have lived in Lake County my whole life, and my father, and grandparents lived here their whole lives. I never thought I would see this county get this way. To me, it seems to be just one school district. Lakeport needs to realize what they are doing is putting those kids down. Those kids work hard day in and day out, they are more dedicated then any group of kids I have ever seen.
They should be able to wear their jerseys and hold their heads up high, and not be counting how many other kids they are hanging out with. Maybe the people who are against the kids from wearing their jerseys should go to one of their games and see how hard those kids work and how many people in the stands are wearing the purple and gold colors. I know I am very proud of of all the Westshore Vikings. I just hope this does not get them down and keeps them working hard.
