UKIAH?An inmate in the Mendocino County Jail was found dead Thursday in a medical isolation observation room according to Mendocino County Sheriff”s Department. The man, not yet identified pending notification of next of kin, is described as a white male, 61, from Willits.

Corrections and medical staff responded when the man when was found unresponsive and slumped over in his cell. There were attempts to revive him with CPR but ultimately efforts to resuscitate the man were futile, an ambulance was sent to the scene to pick the man up. He was transported and later pronounced dead at Ukiah Valley Medical Center.

The man was placed in the special cell due to personal health issues. He was detained since Sept. 16 for driving under the influence of alcohol involving a traffic accident and violation of probation.

An autopsy of the unidentified man was conducted. Results of the exam will not be available until final toxicology reports are conducted and forwarded to the coroner”s office.
